  • Braden Holtby and the Gift of Opportunity

    Fourteen nights later, I finally had a chance to dissect the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a much wider lens, and from a wider perspective. By doing so, I came to the conclusion that what Braden Holtby experienced over the last four weeks stemmed from a rare gift of opportunity, one given to (or earned by) maybe two percent of the entire pro goalie population over the last 10 years.

  • Rinne and the Trait of Constant Motion

    One thing I absolutely love about Pekka Rinne is how he reflects a trait of constant motion. Even in non-dangerous situations, or when the puck is in a low-threat area, a part of him is almost always moving. This is how he stays engaged mentally, this is how he has always been (since I can remember), and this is how he plays at an extremely high level.

About the Founder

Justin Goldman is the Director of Goalie Scouting for McKeen's Hockey and an NHL.com contributor. Since 2002, he has scouted hundreds of goalies in the NAHL, CHL, NCAA, and NHL. A former PHWA member (2006-10), Goldman also founded an annual charity adult hockey tournament in 2007, which has raised over $25,000 for Hockey Fights Cancer.
