Help Rask Paint His New Mask!
The boys over at Pro’s Choice are giving you a chance to voice your opinion on the design for one of Tuukka Rask’s newest masks.
Rask is set to be backing up Tim Thomas this season, which means he’ll be gearing up for the 2010 Winter Classic game on New Year’s Day as well. So it looks like Rask will be commemorating the game with a new custom Bauer Pro’s Choice Vapor mask, complete with an airbrush design that will echo for the ages.
Although we love Tuukka’s current lid (seen above), we’re pretty excited to see what his new mask might feature, especially since it’s already customary for goalies to sport new masks, sometimes even new pads (Dany Sabourin, Marc-Andre Fleury and Chris Osgood all did this in some degree) for the big game.
So sure enough, we got pretty excited when this question was posed by Pro’s Choice on their Twitter page today:
“Here is the Question. What should Tuukka Rask’s Winter Classic mask look like? Be careful…..your idea could be used.”
Blown away by the opportunity to toss an idea their way, here was our response…
“It should be a stone-cold gargoyle with frozen icicles hanging off it. A dark scene reminiscent of the barren winters in Finland.”
After sending in our idea, we asked Pro’s Choice if they would mind if we posted this on our website so that everyone else could chime in with an idea as well, and to our delight they were all for it!
So here you go Goalie Guilders, either through Twitter or right here in 140 characters or less, answer this:
What’s your idea for a design for Tuukka’s new Winter Classic mask??
Feel free to leave a comment on this post (click at the top of the post) or just send a tweet to @ProGoalie or @TheGoalieGuild to get your idea over to Pro’s Choice and Tuukka!

Should look like a classic bruins mask (depends on the jersey design, if its a throw back look at helmets worn by goalies during that jersey time, if possible) Cheevers mask has to be incorporated, have it look frozen and snowed in as an overall theme. But it also has to have his own theme to it, his own style, through either incorporating his old design from his mask now, or something that he likes better. It still will be his mask after-all. Could also hint at the venue, it is at Fenway after all, put the green monster on it. But at the same time keep it simple! Going to be a real challenge for the artist regardless…

A reflected image of the interior of the old Garden, like he was wearing a mirror chrome mask in a game in the 80s.

black helmet with a large vicious snowflake but it’s actually a bear’s face/head staring at you baring it’s teeth.

it should have a comic strip of carey price getting hit by a bus.

THAT was hilarious. +5 credits.

It should have an airborne milk crate and broken goalie stick on it.

Anything that brings in the Red Sox, hints at the Red Sox, or honors the Red Sox is a bad idea. The Bruins have their own history and tradiditon.
Make it a tribute to past Bs goalies like Cheevers.

Keep it simple. Cheevers replica mask. Bruins toque (winter hat) atop his helmet.

something that mixes the red sox with the bruins. like the spoken b on top but instead of the bruins b use the sox b.. maybe wally with a bruins jersey on one side and blade with a sox jersey on the other. or just a reds sox great on one and a bruins on the other.. big papi on one ray bourque on the other.. could be creative and put ray in a batters stance and papi shooting or in goalie gear

It should be all the Bruins great goalies masks or likeness done in Gargoyles style, it is a winter classic I feel a mix of Tuuka and tradition wouldbe a good mix for the occasion,
