Mask of the Week: Ben Vernelson III
With only a few weeks left before our Medieval Mask Design Contest II closes, we have selected Ben Vernelson’s entry for Mask of the Week as a way of saying thanks for his support during our Quest for the Crown 3 charity hockey festival.
“There is no other position in sport more metal than goaltending, and there is no band more metal than the mighty Metallica. Suiting up with the intension of purposely putting your body in front of a hard 6 ounce piece of rubber that can be shot as fast as 100 miles per hour is metal. I jam Metallica almost every time I drive to the rink to get my blood pumping and my mind psyched.” – Ben Vernelson III
Ben’s entry, which is accompanied by a paragraph from his entry’s essay, is a perfect example of a successful design in our mask contest. He includes some kind of “Crown” symbol or theme and brings it to life not only through his actual artwork, but with a short essay that gives his design some real meaning.
Ben was quite enthusiastic about our festival and one of our event’s newest supporters. As soon as he heard it was going down back in February, he quickly put together a team made up of free-agent players from two totally different cities in Colorado – Fort Collins and Denver!
His hard work and support paid off, as his team, the Fort Collins Force, took it to three other teams in the Quest 3 tournament and held on for a 2-1 victory in the Championship game. As we do with all of our winning teams, we adorned them with Burger King crowns, Ben included!
As the founder of the Quest festival and the Medieval Mask Design Contest series, I’m proud to have Ben’s support. He’s a perfect example of an avid goaltender supporting the Guild. He not only created an entry for the contest, but played in the charity tournament as well! Congrats to him for winning Mask of the Week honors and best of luck in the contest.
You still have time to create a design for our MMDCII! The deadline is not until May 30 at midnight MST, so click the contest logo above and learn all the details, download the mask templates and work your mask design magic!
