School of Block: Fantasy Forum Mailbag
:: FANTASY FORUM MAILBAG ::
With our our first-annual Hooters Invitational Tournament taking place all weekend long, we didn’t have time to prepare a full-blown School of Block article. So we opened up the forums on Dobber Hockey for your fantasy goalie questions and spent the day answering them!
The topics came fast and furious this morning, with more than 20 different threads and questions being thrown our way! Here’s a brief look at some of the hot topics we’ve been discussing in-depth today:
1. Current thoughts on Marty Turco for the new season. Is he capable of posting fantasy-worthy stats and will he find a home?
2. Jack Campbell compared to other elite prospects. We provide comprehensive coverage of his skill set and mental toughness.
3. Moving a goalie in a dynasty league. The manager has Ryan Miller, Steve Mason and Jonas Gustavsson. If one had to be moved, who should it be?
4. Henrik Lundqvist vs. Tuukka Rask next season. Do the new leg pad size restrictions mean Lundqvist will have to play a step higher in his crease?
5. Semyon Varlamov and Jimmy Howard next season. Or does this manager trade one of them for Carey Price or Jonathan Bernier?
6. Brian Elliott or Pascal Leclaire for the new season? This manager wants to know who will be the starter in Ottawa and who might play more games.
7. Devan Dubnyk and Chris Mason for the new season. We dissect how both goalies might perform in the first year of their new two-year contracts.
8. All about Ilya Bryzgalov’s value for next season. Does the loss of one of their top defensemen impact his one-year fantasy value?
As you can see, we have covered a wide variety of fantasy topics and goalies, from the elite starters to the baby prospects! Be sure to check out the School of Block Forums for all of today’s topics and enjoy this week’s fantasy analysis.

:: TOP-10 GOALIES FOR ONE-YEAR FANTASY LEAGUES :: School of Block held a fantasy forums mailbag last week and the quality of questions I answered was just outstanding. The volume was even more impressive, as I gladly spent my entire day answering…well…almost all of them. The only question left unanswered was a behemoth request from

:: THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS :: If there was one subject I loved more than any other in high school and college, it was world and state history. Whether it was the fight for the Alamo or the Civil War, not a day went by where I didn’t ponder a country or society’s fight for independence.

Evgeni Nabokov’s reign in San Jose has finally come to an end. The Russian from Kazakhstan has won more games in the last three years than any other goalie, but now joins at least 20 UFA goalies seeking a new empire. I won’t speculate on where he goes or who they bring in as a

:: GOALIE PROSPECT PATTERNS :: Developing prospects is more like alchemy than an exact science. With 30 NHL organizations controlling the rights of anywhere from six to 16 goalies, it’s a special elixir of scouting, coaching philosophies and systems that creates a pedigree of puck stoppers. Once a prospect is drafted or acquired, the organization’s main goal

:: EMBRACE THE INVISIBLE :: I will never forget when Michael Leighton was pulled in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Watching him skate to the bench and walk down the runway was a moment of pure emotional openness. His demeanor and the agony in his eyes screamed helplessness. Even though his tense, hesitant

EVGENI NABOKOV: REMEMBERING NEVER There are many moments during a game when a skater can afford the luxury of taking their eyes off the play. They can catch some air in the penalty box, quickly re-tie their skates or re-tape their stick on the bench or even take the rare shift off to recover from

:: ENERGY DRAIN AND RESIDUAL DECISIONS :: The second round of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs has been a great display of the dynamic surrounding games played and workload. Why does it seem like the workhorses are wearing down, while those that didn’t play as many games during the season are performing better? Although there’s
