The Goalie Guild is dedicated to providing readers with a growing library of free and premium goalie scouting services. We aim to consistently uphold our scouting philosophy, which is consistent with our company’s mission statement. As such, we strive to advance and enhance your understanding of the goaltending position through our numerous free and premium in-depth features and interactive scouting services.
The Goalie Guild is dedicated to providing our readers with a professional resource and scouting service focused on educating and informing the public on any and all pro and amateur goalies. We aim to uphold those ideals by providing new and professional goaltending evaluations on a consistent basis. This includes everything from written reports to scouting charts to video analysis and much more. We pride ourselves on providing bloggers, readers, coaches, fantasy managers, teams, scouts and goalies with in-depth dissections of a goaltender’s strengths, weaknesses, traits, characteristics, mental prowess and puck-stopping ability. In all areas and at every level of the position, we are capable of providing you with keen and insightful analysis of a goalie’s game.
Because goaltending is often considered as 90% mental at the professional level, The Goalie Guild places a special emphasis on all mental aspects of the position. Statistics are a finite group of numbers that can be easily researched, so we focus more of our time on providing you with a well-rounded blueprint and perspective of a goalie’s emotions and mannerisms. We guarantee that every element of goaltending is taken into consideration when scouting a goaltender and that you will find 100% authentic, genuine and original content on our website.
The Goalie Guild is an independent service that relies on the support of our readers in order to continue providing free analysis. By supporting programs like the ones listed below, you help the Guild stay a free service with authentic content and features! Please read below for a list of our services and check back often, as we are constantly adding new and improved features!
:: AUTHENTIC SCOUTING CHARTS ::
Our Scouting Game Charts are in-depth, fully-customizable game sheets that dissect the attributes, strengths and weaknesses of any goalie at any level. The user is provided with a full game write-up as well. An example of our scouting charts are found below:
These charts are available at any time and the cost is very affordable. Packages are handled on an individual basis and depend on the goalie’s age and level, as well as the extent of scouting requested. Charts can be created for any goalie that is able to be viewed live, on HDTV or online, so long as the game is in completion or the video is a highlight package that includes more than 10 minutes of solid playing action. We are proud to be credentialed members of the media for the Colorado Avalanche and their flagship radio station since 2007, and as such we attend all 41 home games during the regular season, including playoffs.
If you happen to live in the Denver Metro Area and would like us to scout a youth in-house, CAHA, AAA, high school, adult, ACHA or NCAA goaltender, we will gladly discuss this option and attend games, practices or tournaments depending on availability.
:: AUTHENTIC WRITTEN REPORTS ::
Written Scouting Reports are full-customized pieces of literature on any goalie in our library. They include any length, any goalie, any level, any style, theme or audience you choose. We have the flexibility to cover any topic in the goaltending realm and create an educational and enriching piece of literature for your blog, website, scouting report, fantasy guide or book.
For examples of our written scouting reports, feel free to peruse our School of Block section for over 120 unique articles! We have also appeared on a number of team-oriented blogs and websites, as well as the very popular Dobber Hockey Fantasy Guides since 2007. We are also proud to be a voting member of the Pro Hockey Writer’s Association (PHWA) since 2006. As such, we are well-recognized for the quality insight and professional style we bring to the goaltending community.

:: RADIO & PODCAST APPEARANCES ::
With a degree in technical journalism and broadcasting at Colorado State University (2005), Justin Goldman has been an on-air hockey analyst since the day the lockout ended. Since that day, Goldman has been on KBPI 106.7 FM’s Uncle Nasty Show before every Avalanche game with a quick and dirty five-minute game preview (Monday through Friday).
At the start of the 2007-08 season, Goldman signed a one-year deal with Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510 to host a weekly hockey show called Gross Misconduct. The show was hosted by Brendan Thomas, who came from the Motor City Machine.
In the summer of 2008, the Colorado Avalanche signed a new radio affiliation with MHSR AM 1510, ending a long-time partnership with The Fan. With the new affiliation landing on the same dial as Goldman and Thomas’ show, the station hired them to host Avalanche PostGame for the entire 2008-09 season.
In the summer of 2009, Thomas took another play-by-play gig in Michigan and moved back home. Goldman was then once again hired by MHSR AM 1510 to host “Avalanche Weekly” alongside producer Dan Bettlach. The show falso eatured special guest play-by-play commentator Mike Haynes from Altitude TV.
For the 2010-11 season, Goldman will once again be providing in-depth Avalanche analysis for MHSR AM 1510 and the Uncle Nasty Show on a weekly basis. He is also reaching out to websites and radio shows all over the world. If you are looking for a goalie guru to provide an insight on anything goaltending, contact us and we will appear on your show or podcast!
:: CONSULTATION & PRIVATE LESSONS ::
Based out of Littleton, Colorado, The Goalie Guild has been offering private lessons to Front Range goalies of all ages and levels since 2005. Goldman is the former head goalie coach for the University of Denver Junior Pioneers and was responsible for the development and guidance of close to 30 goalies for three full seasons. Private lessons are held out of The Edge Ice Arena, which is also the home for our Quest for the Crown charity hockey event.
One-hour private lessons are available for just $60. Semi-private lessons are only $40 an hour.Please note that we are not USA Certified and teach a mixture of the progressive hybrid and European goaltending styles. We are fully insured through RMHP and have a strong coaching reputation in the local community. We adapt to the goaltender’s specific needs and place more emphasis on mental training and quickness exercises. In our short five-year coaching career, a number of our students have graduated from the Junior Pioneers to play for Junior-A teams in the USHL, Nor-Pac and NAHL leagues.
Our consultation services are a combination of video and photo analysis, stance analysis, game situation analysis and much more. We can break down video (as long as it is good quality) and provide you with insight on areas to work on. We can provide you with drills and specific areas to train and enhance your consulting experience by providing you with many literary resources, from articles written by NHL goalie coaches to our own reports. Whether you are a beer-leaguer or trying out for an ECHL team, we can give you an edge in just about any area of the goaltending position.
Another unique and valuable resource we provide is live chats, and coming soon, live peer-to-peer video scouting and consultation. Be sure to enter The Taverngoalie chats throughout the hockey season or set up a personal CoverItLive chat and post video and photos of your most recent game. We will spend anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes answering your questions and providing you with insight, analysis and feedback on your game!
Peer-to-peer video consulting is a work in progress with our friends over at ICoach. This is a beta-tested version in which we can set up a virtual goalie lesson by connecting through the java-run program. The goalie and their parents can post game video, stats, updates and more and we can send streaming video with drills, photo mark-ups and frame-by-frame analysis.
:: LIVE TWITTER ANALYSIS ::
Our Twitter feed @TheGoalieGuild is a great way to connect with us and get live in-game analysis on the fly. We update our rankings on a monthly basis and includes links to each goalie’s latest news, which provides more insight on the goalie and their current rank. This feature also appears in our Monthly Scouting Journal.
:: SCHOOL OF BLOCK ::
School of Block is a weekly article written exclusively for Dobber Hockey every Monday and provides insight on the goaltending position for fantasy managers. Whether it is dissecting a highly-touted prospect or giving managers the scoop on a hidden gem, these articles have been a staple of Dobber Nation since September, 2007.
:: SCHOOL OF BLOCK FANTASY FORUMS ::
Our School of Block Fantasy Forums is housed inside Dobber Hockey and their world-class forums. This is one of our favorite areas to communicate with fantasy managers, discuss fantasy goaltending and provide short and sweet fantasy advice on a daily basis. Register as a member for Dobber’s website and start taking advantage of our daily fantasy analysis right now. We’ll do one thing and one thing only; help you win your pool.
:: THE CURRENT STATE ::
The Current State is an interactive and in-depth look at an NHL team’s current goalie depth chart. We start by posting a three-day poll in our School of Block forums with a list of teams to choose from. Once the team is chosen, readers post their questions related to that team’s depth chart and the goalies in the system. The questions are then answered and published as a School of Block article.
:: ABSOLUTE MENTAL TRAINING ::
Absolute Mental Training articles are provided exclusively by founder Shaun Smith and are posted every Tuesday on our front page. These are tremendous resources for goaltenders and coaches looking for a mental edge to their own game. It is also a great way to learn more about the mental components of the goaltending position.
