EMBRACING THE GRIND: A goaltender is an athlete on an island. Left alone with nothing but your thoughts in the blue crease, you must learn how to handle the pressure of being the last line of defense. You live in a world where you’re only as good as your last game, so if you don’t win, you don’t play. It’s that simple. In today’s NHL, there’s zero margin for error. Players are faster, shots are more accurate, and the game is more physical than ever before. In order to be successful at this level, no matter your size or style, you better be able to handle The Grind. Co-authored by Justin Goldman and Mike Valley, Embracing The Grind features candid, motivational discussions with 11 NHL goaltenders and goalie coaches. A continuation of The Power Within, this book aims to help you embrace the mental, emotional, and physical challenges that come with playing one of the toughest positions in sports.

THE POWER WITHIN: Goldman’s first book, which was co-authored with Dallas Stars director of goalie development Mike Valley, was a two-year collaboration project. Thanks to some incredibly candid interviews with pro goalies like Tomas Vokoun, Marty Turco, Brian Elliott, Niklas Backstrom, Richard Bachman, and many more, the book has helped thousands of goalies all over the world have a much better understanding of the path one must take to truly become an elite goalie. Using a simple visual representation of elite goaltending performance through the “Three Pillars” diagram, the book gives readers a chance to discover their own path to greatness. This book makes a great purchase to enhance your goalie camp or clinic, as well as a great tool for coaches that want to incorporate mental training into their programming.

BETWEEN TWO WORLDS: Goldman’s second release is a lengthy reflection of a life-changing four month international goaltending development research expedition. Fascinated by the cultural and environmental differences between goalies in Europe and North America, Goldman brings you inside his learning experiences through exclusive interviews with some of the brightest and longest-tenured goalie coaches in the world. From Mitch Korn’s camp in Minnesota to Jukka Ropponen’s GoaliePro mentoring program in Helsinki to USA Hockey’s prestigious annual Warren Strelow camp, Goldman saw a little bit of everything in the summer of 2014. This book not only shares everything he learned, but also includes some unique research into key aspects of goalie development. Whether you’re a goalie parent, coach, or a student of the position, this book is a hefty tome for goalie enthusiasts everywhere!

Version 2.0 of The Periodic Table of Goaltending Elements is a functional infographic designed by Justin Goldman to help readers visualize and define the numerous elements that make up a goaltender. This project was originally created in the summer of 2011, and then was enhanced in 2013 for a re-release of version 2.0 in January of 2014. It is a personal representation of how Goldman visualizes 131 of the most important traits a successful goaltender exhibits.
