2016 SCHOLARSHIP RECAP:
The Goalie Guild,
I’m writing you in response to my experience while attending Mitch Korn’s Goalie Camp under the 2016 Scholarship. Having attended many camps over my career as both a goaltender and coach, I can personally say this experience was hands down the best goalie-specific camp I’ve had the pleasure to attend. The camp was run with professionalism, class, and extreme detail, offering valuable detailed instruction showcasing a lifetime of knowledge.
As the current goalie coach for the Marshall Amateur Hockey Association in Minnesota, the experience and knowledge I gained as a coach at the camp will bring a more refined and advanced strategy to our program. I can’t thank The Goalie Guild, Mitch Korn, and the other coaches at camp enough for their kindness, knowledge, and support. Thank you once again for a wonderful opportunity in expanding my knowledge of goaltending, and for giving me the tools to expand our program, allowing us to offer a more well-rounded goalie instructional experience and giving our association’s goaltenders the best chance at success.
This opportunity will benefit many students of the game in our area of southwest Minnesota! Thank you for a fantastic experience that will prove invaluable for the future of many.
Jes S. Mellenthin
THE STORY BEHIND THE SCHOLARSHIP
In the summer of 2012, Goldman had an opportunity to join Mitch Korn’s coaching staff as a volunteer for a camp in Edina, MN. It was perfect timing, as the opportunity came just weeks after Goldman had moved from Colorado to the Twin Cities in order to expand his scouting horizons and begin writing his first book, The Power Within.
Over three years and four Korn Camps later, Goldman decided to make that same special opportunity available to other American-born goalie coaches.
“Opening the door for more American-born goalie coaches to learn directly from Mitch was something I’ve wanted to do since I first met him,” Goldman said. “Not only is he one of the most well-respected and longest-tenured goalie coaches in NHL history, but nobody runs a more well-oiled camp for kids. You will learn so much about his effective coaching techniques and how he communicates with all types of goalies. His camps are a bit of a grind, but they are so much fun. It’s all part of the learning experience you can only get from one of the best in the business.”
This scholarship is only available to goalie coaches in the United States. You must be over the ages of 21 to apply. Applicants must agree to attend one camp and act as a volunteer coach for the duration of the camp.
